Walthamstow Rock ‘n’ Roll Book Club marks the announcement of the 6th Penderyn Music Book PrizeFree (but you must register)

Now in its sixth year, the Penderyn Music Book Prize celebrates the very best of the years music books. Previous prize winners include Mark Lewisohn, Jon Savage, Daniel Rachel, Stuart Cosgrove and Shirley Collins.
On the night, four of this year’s fourteen long-listed authors; Will Birch, Mick Houghton, Ian Penman and Tracey Thorn will discuss their writing with fellow author/historian Travis Elborough.
The Penderyn Music Book Prize is the first UK-based prize specifically for music titles (history, theory, biography, autobiography). The prize is awarded at the annual Laugharne Weekend and is sponsored by Penderyn Distillery.

Charity Burns Night Ceilidh for WF Migrant Action

Join WF Migrant Action for their biggest fundraiser yet as they celebrate the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns with a traditional cèilidh involving Scottish dancing, Gaelic folk music plus the singing of traditional Burns Night songs and reading of the Burns Night poem! E17’s very own Jig17 will get us jiving the night away with their cèilidh and their excellent caller will explain all the moves so that everyone who wants to can join the dance! A delicious 2-course meal with bagpiping hot haggis (vegetarian, vegan or meat) and a wee dram of whiskey to wash it down is included in the price of your ticket!
Robert Burns was well-known for his defence of migrants. In 1786, he wrote to the Earl of Breadalbane, President of the Highland Society, defending the right of Highlanders to escape their overlords and emigrate to Canada.
All the proceeds from the evening will go straight to the support centre WFMA runs every Friday in Walthamstow the demands for which grow all the time, so they need your help!

Following their resounding success with last year’s event, The East Lonesome Drifters with Hank JD Sleek bring their Texas Two Step Workshop Party back to The Trades. Come one, come all and learn how to Texas Two-Step just like they do in the honky tonks and bars in Austin TX!Hank will lead you in a fun and informative workshop suitable for complete beginners or experienced dancers. The workshop lasts around 3 hours with breaks for tea and coffee, etc. No partner necessary and no special clothes, shoes, boots or hats required! Just the appetite for fun!
Following the workshop, east London’s purveyors of honkytonk, East Lonesome Drifters will play two sets of live music for your dancing pleasure and there are DJ sets too.
